Andrew Thurston
Andrew is a key member of our National Customs Team and has over 20 years’ experience within HMRC’s Customs and Excise Departments. He assists Irish, UK, and EU clients to optimise their supply chains from a customs perspective.
As part of the Indirect Tax team, he regularly liaises with VAT colleagues to ensure all indirect tax aspects are considered. This partnership has benefitted many clients as post-Brexit trade has become more complex and compliance driven. He uses his experiences within HMRC to effectively review and advise on customs processes, such as tariff classification, customs valuation, origin and special procedures, which has benefited many clients, both in the UK and the EU. This, along with the detailed advice he provides to clients ensure that companies can improve their tax compliance.
He regularly advises Baker Tilly International colleagues on customs issues, and he has assisted EU clients with obtaining EU Customs Authorisations such as Outward Processing.
Andrew has been a keen advocate for sharing his knowledge and he regularly presents at ICAEW webinars and provides training to businesses on customs compliance requirements. He is also part of the ICAEW Customs Duties subcommittee.
