Lia's story

Feb 28, 2026

Hi, I’m Lia and I am a senior manager in the audit team. My journey has been shaped by dedication, continuous learning and the opportunities I have embraced along the way. Starting as a trainee and progressing through the audit pathway has given me a deep appreciation for development, collaboration and the importance of investing in people.

Where my journey began

I joined Baker Tilly Ireland in 2018 as an audit trainee, excited by the opportunity to build a career in accounting and develop a strong technical foundation within a supportive and ambitious firm. From the outset, I was motivated by the learning opportunities available and the clear pathway to becoming a qualified accountant.

During my time with the firm, I completed my ACCA qualification, becoming a chartered certified accountant while fulfilling the three-year professional experience requirement. Balancing exams alongside full time audit work required commitment and resilience, but it significantly strengthened both my technical expertise and professional confidence.

Developing through each stage

As an audit senior, I led large and complex audit assignments, managing day to day engagements and working closely with teams to deliver high quality outcomes. This role was instrumental in developing my leadership capability and deepening my understanding of client service.

Following qualification, I was promoted to assistant manager, where I managed my own portfolio of clients and worked closely with both clients and staff to ensure services were delivered efficiently, effectively and to the highest standard.

After some time, I progressed to audit manager, overseeing a broader and more diverse portfolio across multiple sectors, from owner managed businesses to subsidiaries of large multinational organisations. Each engagement brought new challenges and learning opportunities, further strengthening my commercial awareness and leadership skills.

I am now proud to be a senior manager within a fantastic team. In this role, I continue to lead a significant client portfolio while also taking on greater responsibility for strategic oversight, team development and maintaining the quality and integrity of our audit services.

Lia with the team

Progressing through the firm from trainee to senior manager has given me a deep appreciation of continuous development, collaboration and the importance of investing in people.

Building relationships and embracing new opportunities

Mentoring and coaching remain central to my role. I believe strong teams are built through support, open communication and recognising individual strengths. I take pride in helping colleagues build confidence, develop technically and progress in their careers. Supporting others to grow is one of the most rewarding aspects of what I do.

Over the years, I have built strong relationships with clients by taking the time to understand their businesses and identifying opportunities to enhance the delivery of our services.

Since the merger with MHA, I have had valuable opportunities to work with colleagues across the UK and internationally, broadening our perspective and strengthening our offering. I look forward to continuing to build these relationships and embracing the opportunities that come with being part of a larger global network.

Reflections and advice

Reflecting on my journey, the most important lesson I have learned is to embrace opportunities, even when they feel challenging. Growth often happens outside your comfort zone.

For women early in their careers, my advice would be to believe in your capability, seek out mentors and advocates and remember that your voice and perspective bring genuine value.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my journey at Baker Tilly Ireland and feel fortunate to work alongside such a dedicated and supportive team. I am excited to continue developing, contributing and growing as a senior manager within the firm.
